Zedd

Zedd started 2019 as a five-time Grammy nominee, and while he didn’t walk away with a tiny gold-coloured gramophone this year, that hasn’t held back his continued success in the pop world, or his racking up of streams. He released ‘365’ with former tour mate Katy Perry, accompanied by a dystopian, Black Mirror-esque video. He rejoined with Warren Fu, the ‘365’ video director for ‘Good Thing’, his single with Kehlani. He attracted quite a bit of negative attention during his Instagram/Twitter back and forth with disgruntled one-time collaborator Matthew Koma, but he also won people over with his shutdown of homophobic comments about a same-gender wedding proposal at one of his shows.

Solomun

Mladen Solomun has come a long way over the past decade. Emerging from the deep house scene of Hamburg, his adopted hometown — his family had moved there from the former Yugoslavia when he was a kid — Solomun founded the Diynamic label back in 2005. Initially, it served as a platform for local artists like Stimming, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and H.O.S.H, and their early, string-soaked melodic house EPs provided a sweet alternative to the robotic minimalism of that period. Solomun also pushed this sound in his own productions and DJ sets, and this distinctive, singular style has led him to become an increasingly popular international DJ.
